Vatnið í náttúru Íslands

“Water is heavenly. It comes from outer space, and although it is the most common substance on the Earth’s surface, water is in its nature sacred — the very spark and cradle of life. Without water there is no life.”

– Guðmundur Páll Ólafsson, 2012

Water is the foundation of life on Earth. Iceland is unusually rich in water, and water is a very distinctive feature of the country’s nature. The exhibition WATER in Icelandic Nature, which opened at Perlan on December 1, 2018, explores water from various perspectives: the chemical and physical properties of water, the formation and nature of the water resource, the role of water in shaping landscapes and structures, and the diversity of aquatic life — from plants, microbes, and animals to entire ecosystems.

The exhibition provides an innovative and comprehensive insight into one of the country’s most important resources — our precious water — its mysteries, and its importance for a prosperous future and continued habitation in Iceland.

The exhibition Water in Icelandic Nature is located on the 2nd floor of Perlan in Öskjuhlíð. It is open daily from 9:00 to 21:00. Guests receive free admission upon presenting a Perlan Vildarvini membership card. The card can be obtained at Perlan’s reception on the 1st floor.
